Jesus Blog: How Does Jesus Want You to Love Each Other?

heart tree

More today from my Saturday “Jesus Blog” – a word from Jesus to you…

It gets complicated when you “disciple” one another and when you want to “hold each other accountable.” And it gets dangerous. Why? Because I think people have it all wrong. And because people are supposed to follow God, not each other.

I have heard people quote the book of Matthew and say that “in discipleship we are helping one another learn to ‘obey all that I commanded you’.

I have heard people claim to speak for me and quote from the book of John, telling people “if you love Jesus keep his commands.”

So, what DID I command you to do?

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: ‘Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.’ All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets stem from these two laws and are fulfilled as you obey them. Keep only these and you will find that you are obeying all the others.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Before you ever speak into someone’s life about any issue, before you utter a single word, make absolutely certain that the person feels unconditional, complete love from you. If you have any doubt about that, if they have any doubt about that, love them more and just hold off on the issue.

Love them and trust God to work everything else out. Do you trust me enough to do that?

If you have to choose between doing what you think is right and love, always choose love and you will always be right. Love never fails.

Love more, love radically, love excessively and watch the amazing things that happen in people’s lives.

Love will accomplish more than  you can imagine.

The Bible says that the enemy comes against the simplicity of living life with me. So, what is that simple life? Loving God and loving others. It really is that simple.

Abundant. Unconditional. Radical. Inclusive. Love.
