“One of the best parts about being a gay Christian is that I feel like I am part of a minority of the oppressed and marginalized that hold a very special place in Jesus’ heart.”
More today from my weekend “Jesus Blog” – a word from Jesus to you…
Much has been written about me, much has been said and done in my name – and much of that is not truth, not my heart.
In all that you read about me, and from me, let me make one thing very clear:
I have a special place in my heart for the oppressed and marginalized.
You who are poor, hungry, lied-about, misunderstood, condemned, trivialized, rejected—you have a special place in my heart.
I have a special place in my heart for the hurting.
You who are wounded, struggling, lied-to, abused, hated, marginalized, dejected—you have an irreplaceable place in my heart.
I have a special place in my heart for gay marriage.
You who, in the face of unspeakable hate and hurdles, have fought to be married – reflecting your traditional, faithful commitment to family and each other and your desire to love, forever – you have a tender place in my heart.
I have a special place in my heart for people who are LGBTQ.
You have faced life’s questions to your very core. You have suffered soul-searing pain. You have been laid bare of the usual self-protection. You have cried out in raw pain and suffering. You have developed a tender connection with me, deeper and stronger than words can express. You have developed deep compassion for others. You are precious to me.
Anyone who has been hurt, or oppressed and marginalized by those who claim to speak for me, I made it clear what I think about your mistreatment. (Here and here.)
And I made it clear how I want people to treat you. (Here, here and here.)
So, to those of you out there who claim my name, when you encounter one of my precious gay children, when you pass by them on the path, when you see them hurting, love them, as they are, for who they are, unconditionally.
There is no better way to express your love for me.
