Daisy Ridley, the beloved Rey of the most recent Star Wars movie, recently was attacked on social media because of her body doesn’t have enough curves.
The Huffington Post gives an inside look to Daisy’s perfect response:
Ridley was made aware of an Instagram meme of her character from “The Force Awakens,” which features a speech bubble with text stating, “I can’t believe the unrealistic expectations I’m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women haves curves?”
The 23-year-old addressed the user who created the meme by posting a screengrab, according to Entertainment Tonight, writing in the caption, “‘Real women’ are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don’t have families. I am a ‘real women’ like every other woman in this world.”
Daisy also posted two Instagram photos to bring her message home. She made it clear she wouldn’t tolerate unkindness from either side of the issue: those participating in her body shaming, and those attacking her body shamers.
Daisy handled the issue with grace and confidence.
Now, that’s something young women should emulate.
