“Women are, by nature, more nurturers than warriors,” said Dawn Bradley, the person in charge of Agape Tactical’s Woman Warrior Project.
“If we were,” she said. “We would’ve killed our kids by now.” The group of women sitting together in the back room of Everything Weapons in Franklin, Tennessee laughed. “However, we can train ourselves to be women warriors, and that’s what we’re going to do tonight.”
Agape Tactical established their innovative female-only system to allow women to feel confident with their firearm and become more proficient shooters “in a relaxed and non-intimidating atmosphere.” And that’s exactly what they have achieved. I came to the Woman Warrior Beginner Pistol after having gotten my carry permit in a regular Agape Class. (Embarrassingly, I cried. Click here to find out why.)
Bradley, who described herself that evening as a fitness instructor, a gun enthusiast, and a licensed minister, stood in front of the class of about eight women who were there to feel more confident about having a gun either in their purse or on their person. (Six of us were white, two were black.) The Beginner’s pistol class, which was three hours, covered shooting fundamentals, firearms safety, nomenclature, and shooting mechanics. After the instruction time, we went to the range, where we could put in more hours shooting. That night we went through less than the 100 rounds of ammunition we brought, but we had a good amount of time learning how — and when — to shoot.
