As some of you know, our founders at SixSeeds John and Jean Kingston have founded other not-for-profits, among them Sword & Spoon productions, a film initiative.

Their partners include David Henrie and Leo Severino, who have partnered closely with film director Alejandro Monteverde on such projects as the faith based film “Little Boy.”  We at SixSeeds (as part of the Sword & Spoon world) mourned when we heard members of a drug cartel kidnapped, ransomed, and killed Alejandro’s father and brother, Juan Manuel Gómez Fernández and Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde.

This happened in September, just after the release of “Little Boy.”

In an Instagram post, Alejandro’s wife, Ali Landry (former Miss USA), wrote compelling words about the lives of these men:

The events surrounding my family were tragic and what has happened will profoundly affect our lives forever, but my Father in Law was the kind of man that radiated pure joy and it was infectious. He loved and adored his family more than anything. He was a jokester, a great dancer, a crier (especially when he was talking about his sons:), and he lived his life in the present, appreciating each moment as a huge blessing. He was my husbands hero and like my second Dad. My brother in law was such a hard working business owner. He was an incredible salsa dancer, he was fluent in Japanese and we all looked up to him. When things became dangerous in Tampico a few years ago he moved his family to Estonia, Guadalajara, and then Mcallan Texas just to keep them safe. He was a wonderful friend, an amazing husband, and a great father to his two beautiful children. This is a painful time, and we are still processing it all. What we have realized is that this journey through grief and loss is a marathon, not a sprint, and the only way to get through it is by the grace of God. We are determined not to allow this event to define them or our lives. We want to remember the beauty, the innocence, and the light that they represented, and to continue their legacy and always put family first.

In an effort to support and love the family affected by this tragedy, friends and family created a call to action to provide for Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde’s two young children:

His young son and daughter not only lost their father, but they also lost their best friend, their mentor, their inspiration.  They will miss so many things about him as they grow up.  They will miss his love, his wisdom, his hugs, his kisses.  They will miss all of him for the rest of their lives.   But also they will miss his financial support for the things that truly mattered to him and his wife, like an outstanding education… This is a call to action.  This is a call to counter violence with love.

Please consider supporting the Monteverde family and the education of their children.

Juan Manuel followed after his father’s example of creating a legacy of love. We want to continue to pass down that legacy for his children. Help us give Juan Manuel’s children a small blessing — one that will never fill the loss of their father, but will ensure that his family is able to honor his wishes for his children.
