THANK YOU FOR SIGNING SHERIFF CLARKE’S PETITION!
While it’s easy to think of the #BlackLivesMatter movement as an earnest effort to bring equality to the races, the underlying political rhetoric shows that it is actually radical and divisive. No where can this be seen more clearly than the list of demands a group of sixty #BlackLivesMatter organizations served to the Presidential candidates.
The New York Times reports that Marbre Stahly-Butts worked on the list of demands for over a year. She said:
“On both sides of aisle, the candidates have really failed to address the demands and the concerns of our people. So this was less about this specific political moment and this election, and more about how do we actually start to plant and cultivate the seeds of transformation of this country that go beyond individual candidates.”
So what’s on the list?
1. Free college for black people, free living expenses, and forgiveness of student loans
Who needs Santa Claus when you have #BlackLivesMatter? According to The Movement for Black Lives, they demand:
Reparations for the systemic denial of access to high quality educational opportunities in the form of full and free access for all Black people (including undocumented and currently and formerly incarcerated people) to lifetime education including: free access and open admissions to public community colleges and universities, technical education (technology, trade and agricultural), educational support programs, retroactive forgiveness of student loans, and support for lifetime learning programs.
They go on to demand free cost of living allowances as well.
