7 Quick Takes Friday — Points to Ponder

7 Quick Takes Friday — Points to Ponder August 31, 2012

In my reading and research for some of the new topics, I have been reading some really challenging material. And what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t spread the challenging words around a little?

I submit for your friday reading pleasure, some words that just might make you squirm. In a good way.

7.

“The guarantee of one’s prayer is not in saying a lot of words. The guarantee of one’s petition is very easy to know: How do I treat the poor? Because that is where God is. The degree to which you approach them, and the love with which you approach them, or the scorn with which you approach them – this is how you approach your God. What you do to them, you do to God. The way you look at them is the way you look at God.”  – Archbishop Oscar Romero

Gulp.

“The Eucharist and the poor we must never separate. If we really believe that He, Jesus, is in the appearance of bread, and He, Jesus, is in the hungry, the naked, the sick, the lonely, unloved, the homeless, the helpless, the hopeless, then our lives will be more and more woven with this deep faith in Jesus, the bread of life to be eaten with and for the poor.”  -Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

5.

“Every moment comes to us pregnant with a command from God, only to pass on and plunge into eternity, there to remain forever what we have made of it.”  – St. Franics De Sales

I’m sorry, but if that doesn’t make you crap your pants a little bit, then you’re probably already a saint or totally insane.

4.

“No one in the world can alter truth. All we can do is seek it and live it.”

— St. Maximillian Kolbe

This one seems helpful to remember during this election season which is…special. In it’s yuck-factor.

“We must love them both, those whose opinions we share and those whose opinions we reject. For both have labored in the search for truth, and both have helped us in finding it.”  – St. Thomas Aquinas
