Day 20: Atticus

Day 20: Atticus

You knew that was coming, right?

The man, the myth, the legend at law school graduation, 2008

Oh Atticus. What can I say about this man? When I met him on February 25, 2007, the world changed. My world shifted in an afternoon. Before and after.

Up until that point, relationships were difficult and nearly always ended in heartache. Before.

When I met Atticus, we just started talking. We started talking and we never stopped. The talking became dreaming, the dreaming became planning, and the planning came to an end on January 3, 2009 when we stood before our God, our families, and our friends and vowed with our very lives that we are one.

“Oh, is it 30 degrees outside? I didn’t even notice. I’ve got my love to keep me warm.”

I could talk to you about the emails, hundreds of emails, that we exchanged during the first 15 months of our relationship, when we lived 2 hours apart. I could talk to you about the thoughtfulness, loyalty, and kindness of this man. Of his quiet nature and his deep, deep heart.

Since the moment since she was born, Atticus has loved Maggie fiercely and beautifully. She really is Daddy’s girl.

The real miracle, though, is that he chose me. He could have done better. But I, I am eternally grateful for this man. If I have a chance of getting to heaven, it will be in large part because of him.

He’s my heart and my hero.

Today I am so beyond grateful for the gift of my wonderful, holy, husband.

What are you grateful for?
