Stop ruining my life and causing me to neglect my blog, dishes, laundry, and family. Yes, your books are that good. I read The Hunger Games (book 1) in 48 hours, and I think I fell into a time warp because I don’t remember anything that happened during that 48 hours other than reading the book. Has anyone else experienced this? I am going to B&N to get the second and third books with the gift card I got for... Read more

Sorry guys. I have been spring cleaning like crazy (or should I call it summer cleaning because it’s 80 degrees outside) and ignoring the siren song of the internet for the past two days. My living room and dining room windows have been cleaned for the first time since we moved in (nearly two years ago). My curtains are washed and everything is dusted. I tackle one room of the house each day and that seems to work pretty well... Read more

7. This is my 400th blog post. Gosh. 400’s a lot of blog posts. I started this blog in November 2008, just before getting married to Atticus. Since the first time I hit “publish” I’ve gotten married, conceived two babies, given birth to one, and spilled a lot of virtual ink over just how stinkin’ hard it is. To be a Christian. A Mother. A woman. Sometimes I wonder how I haven’t run out of things to talk about. Then... Read more

I have to admit that when she took the podium, I was inwardly skeptical. “Another nun talking about the feminine genius. What’s she going to say that I haven’t heard before?” I am a moron. Sister Mary Elizabeth’s talk was a lot of things. Redundant was not one of them. Challenging. Inspiring. Emotional (on my part). A slap in the face from God. You know, the good kind. The “get out of your complacency and listen to me” kind. The... Read more

When we got there, I lost my voice. I wish I was kidding, but I’m not. On the day I got to go to the “Catholic Oscars” and meet Jen, Hallie, Danielle, Kate, Elizabeth and a whole lot of other wonderful people, I arrived with a raspy voice sounding like Myrtle from Boca who’s been mainlining nicotine for the last 30 years. Yep, that’s me. At least I didn’t have toilet paper stuck to my shoe or lipstick on my... Read more

7. It’s road trip time! This weekend is the Behold Conference! I’m so stinkin’ excited. I spent about one hour trying on outfits this week. I have three possibilities. I know, I’m absurd. But, but, but… I might change my mind. Or the weather might change from the forecast. It’s not like we’re flying. Don’t judge! 6. Did I mention I’m road tripping with Jenny? She is a great blogger who I met via Rebecca. She lives in my area... Read more

Michelle and Rebecca have co-written an excellent post about being the 98%. This is my humble contribution. ****************************************** You’ve probably heard it on the news lately; “98% of Catholic women are using contraception”. You’ve heard the statistic, but I’m here to tell you it just isn’t true. How do I know? Because I’m one of them. Even though I 100% wholeheartedly agree with the Church on contraception, I’m part of this “98%”. How can that be? Because the only question... Read more

I always read them in our Sunday paper. Sometimes it takes me an hour to eat breakfast. I take a few bites of egg, a sip of coffee, and keep reading. More intently some Sundays than others. It’s a small indulgence to pour over the lives of others, to share their stories. I love obituaries because they are, above all else, a celebration of life. If the concept did not exist, we would never have the opportunity to know of... Read more

7. We finally all made a family trip to the Children’s Museum this past weekend. Atticus had never been, so we went after church. It was so much fun. Maggie was able to enjoy the water table for the first time. She also loved the Mr. Potato Head exhibit. I forsee a lot of spring and summer (when its too hot for the Zoo) trips to the museum. 6. I have been reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie... Read more

I’m a pretty smart lady. I mean, sometimes. But there are some things about life in these United States that I simply don’t understand. Here are seven, in no particular order. 7. Fax Machines I had to use them a lot when I worked for the Office for Peace and Justice in Chicago, and while I knew how to put the paper in, dial the number, and let the magic commence, I always stood there like a slack-jawed moron wondering... Read more
