*** 1 *** Tomorrow is my baby shower! I’m still kind of in awe at all of this happening. Not that I really thought I’d never get pregnant again before I did, but I was so very scared of another miscarriage after losing Michael. In the beginning of this pregnancy, every time a small milestone passed, and everything was alright, I breathed a little easier. When we saw her for the first time, heard her heartbeat at 8 weeks, then... Read more

Our All Saints and Holy Souls area: books on the saints, various holy cards — including Atticus’ patron, Thomas More and my patron Bernadette — as well as Sts. Joseph, Michael, and Gianna, photos of my mother, Atticus’ grandparents, and my paternal grandparents.   “I would go so far as to say that if there was no purgatory, then we would have to invent it, for who would dare say of himself that he was able to stand directly before... Read more

Everyone still here after the mayhem last night? And by mayhem, I mean, the 30 trick-or-treaters we had between 6 -8 pm. Since we didn’t live on this street last year, we believed our neighbors when they told us we’d have more than 60 kids. So we bought a big bag of over 100 pieces. Oops. I packed my husband a ziploc quart sized bag full of candy to take with him to work today. There’s still about 25... Read more

In case you were only having a blah sort of day, this is for you:     Is there anything the Muppet’s don’t do well? Case in point: Muppet’s Christmas Carol. Done.   You can carry on with your day now. I hope this video made it better. 🙂 Read more

Sometimes I read CNN.com. I know, I know. But I need to see what’s going on out there. Today there’s this little blurb about a candidate who is airing campaign ads that show graphic pictures of aborted babies. People are complaining because their children are seeing them. The station has its hands tied, because apparently there is a law that if a federal candidate wants to run an ad, it must be run in its entirety, no station may edit... Read more

For more quick takes, head over to Jen’s blog at Conversion Diary! There isn’t a whole lot going on this week, so I thought I’d post about some of the books I’ve been reading lately. *** 1 *** Catholic Matters: Confusion, Controversy, and the Splendor of Truth by Fr. Richard John Neuhaus (the founder of First Things magazine). Fr. Neuhaus writes so beautifully about his experience of growing up Lutheran, and of his eventual journey to the Church. I’ve read... Read more

I haven’t written much of substance lately. I know “pregnancy brain” is a common complaint of women who are expecting, and I guess it’s possible I’m experiencing some of that. But, I have been thinking. I have been pondering. I have composed about 15 draft posts which I then deleted because even though I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about various things, I can’t figure out how to say exactly what it is I want to . I’m fearful... Read more

I missed Quick Takes. Oops. I feel like I’ve got a ton of things on my mind, but I can’t seem to figure out what I’d like to say. However, I was compiling a mental list of some things I’m looking forward to enjoying when I’m no longer pregnant (aka 11 weeks from now). These are in no particular order: (1) Alcohol (in general) and Sangria and Margaritas in particular Oh yeah — and of course, what celebration is complete... Read more

For more quick takes, visit Jen at Conversion Diary! *** 1 *** I’ve been thinking about Christmas, specifically how I can be as prepared as possible before Christmas arrives, so I don’t have to be running around buying gifts, making cookies, etc. when I’m just weeks from delivering. After reading some great ideas online, I think we’re going to be doing a lot of gourmet type food gifts for people. They are relatively inexpensive, but a fun gift to receive... Read more

image of Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary   Today is the feast of Mary, as Queen of the Rosary. I love this feast for two main reasons. (1) I love Mary and (2) the parish we attend is … Holy Rosary Parish. I actually wrote a pretty darn good post (if I can say that?) last year on this feast, so I’m going to re-print a portion of that post. Why re-invent the wheel? Our Lady has said in... Read more
