Tomorrow is my baby shower! I’m still kind of in awe at all of this happening. Not that I really thought I’d never get pregnant again before I did, but I was so very scared of another miscarriage after losing Michael. In the beginning of this pregnancy, every time a small milestone passed, and everything was alright, I breathed a little easier. When we saw her for the first time, heard her heartbeat at 8 weeks, then at each appointment after, and then to feel her movements. It’s been so incredible and healing for me.

Now to be going to my own baby shower tomorrow, it’s so exciting but also humbling to have be reminded again of the gift I’ve been  given in this pregnancy!

Two of my wonderful friends have planned the shower; Elizabeth and Caitilin.

Elizabeth (and her husband) are dear friends from our Chicago days, and they are going to be Baby’s godparents! Elizabeth and I met when we were both volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center in Chicago.

I’m so excited because she and her husband are coming down tonight for the whole weekend!!

Caitilin is a great friend here in Indy. We met her and her wonderful husband at a young adult adoration group last fall. She is about the sweetest person I’ve ever met (and I know a lot of great people!). She was part of the ENDOW study I facilitated back in the spring, and we got to know each other a lot better through that.

Even though Elizabeth and Caitilin have never met, they worked together to plan everything for tomorrow!

Another pleasant surprise for this weekend; my super-sweet (and very busy) sister in law Janice is coming up from Nashville, and we’ll get to spend some time with her on Sunday too!

What does one wear to a baby shower? It’s going to be at my house, in the afternoon. I want to dress up, but I’m feeling like a beached whale these days, so “dressing up” is pretty relative. Also, it’s going to be a high of 43 degrees tomorrow.

I bought this dress from Target, and I want to wear it, but I probably need to wear either tights or leggings under it so I don’t freeze.*whines about tights like I did when I was six* They’re itchy. Not to mention, all I have are pre-maternity tights which make me feel like a sausage.

Cute dress though, right? 🙂

If you’ve ever had a baby shower, what was the best/worst gift you received? If you had a registry, are there things you registered for that you realized later were pointless? Did you go back later and get items from your registry that you didn’t receive as a gift?

I’m curious as to what other moms find useful or good as a shower gift.

If you’ve ever been to a baby shower, what was the best gift you have given? Do you think there are things moms register for that make you go, “why would anyone want that”?

Games. More specifically, shower games. The only reason I’m not nervous about this is because I trust my two wonderful friends who planned this thing not to humiliate me (too badly!).

I went to a baby shower recently for a friend, and they had really good games. Nothing humiliating for the mom to be, nothing totally awkward for the guests, nothing involving melted candy bars in a diaper. A good time was had by all.

What’s the best/worst shower game you’ve ever (been forced to) play?

Last, but not least, Preggatinis. Caitilin found this book at the library and showed it to me. Genius! It’s a book full of nothing but mock-tails created specifically for pregnant women. The book is broken down by trimester, and includes ingredients that are healthy for each stage of pregnancy.

There’s also holiday themed drinks, and ways to make the preggatinis real drinks for dads to enjoy too. 🙂

We’re having a Thanksgiving themed drink tomorrow for the party; so excited!

I’ll make sure to have someone take lots of pictures tomorrow and give an update next week! Have a blessed weekend!
