Advent is all about waiting. We wait, with joyful anticipation, for the birth of Jesus. However, the kind of waiting that takes place in Advent is somewhat unique. I’ve just recently found this version of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel by Enya. It’s so beautiful. Really, beautiful is just the word for it. Gaudete, is the Latin word for rejoice! — which is why the 3rd Sunday of Advent (the rose candle) is called Gaudete Sunday, because gaudete is the first word of the Latin prayer for that day. When I was growing up, my family did not have an Advent wreath, since my grandparents (who raised me) were barely practicing Protestants. I went to the Catholic church, so I saw the Advent wreath there, and learned what Advent was through religious education at my parish.
