A Gillibrand, not a Kennedy, picked to be Senator January 23, 2009

New York governor David Paterson has appointed state congresswoman <a href="http://www.newsday.com/news/local/state/ny-stsena0124,0,6143131.story" Kirsten Gillibrand to fill Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s senate seat. Caroline Kennedy, who had seemed the most likely pick, withdrew her name after facing much criticism.
