Praying for those in authority

Praying for those in authority

We talked about this soon after the election, but now it is real. We are told to pray for those in authority over us. What should we pray for our new president?

UPDATE: Hey, what did you think of Rick Warren’s prayer? He did pray in the name of Jesus–adding for good measure the names of Jesus in the language of the Jews and the Muslims (Yeshua and Isa), which is perfectly fine in my opinion–and went so far as to conclude with the Lord’s Prayer!

UPDATE #2: And then there was this from the benediction by Rev. Joseph Lowery: ‘Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around… when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen’ [quoted from Drudge] There was also a phrase in there “when yellow will be mellow.”

Preachers, a word of advice from an English professor: Don’t rhyme! And don’t overuse alliteration! Thank you.
