Rick Warren to help conservative Episcopalians

Megachurch pastor Rick Warren, though under attack for being conservative, is offering support–including his church’s own property–to breakaway conservative California Anglicans whose property is being taken away by the liberal Episcopalian hierarchy:

The Rev. Rick Warren, pastor of Lake Forest, California-based Saddleback Church and a leading conservative evangelical, has reportedly told a number of Anglican leaders that he is willing to aid dissident Episcopalians in southern California.

“We stand in solidarity with them, and with all orthodox, evangelical Anglicans. I offer the campus of Saddleback Church to any Anglican congregation who need a place to meet, or if you want to plant a new congregation in south Orange County,” Warren reportedly wrote recently in a letter.

By the way, a New York appeals court has followed California in ruling that congregations that want to leave the existing Episcopal church must give up their property.

I do salute Rick Warren on this one. Usually the strategy for church growth congregations is to be liked at all costs. But he and some other megachurch pastors are standing up for their convictions.
