North Korea exploded a Hiroshima-size nuclear bomb in an underground test. The Stalinist state’s first bomb seemed not to amount to much, but this one is the real deal. A few weeks ago, North Korea also successfully tested a long-range ballistic missile.

Meanwhile, Iran has sent six warships into international waters in the Gulf of Aden, apparently to show it can make good its threat to blockade the world’s oil routes should anyone bomb its nuclear sites. Five days ago, Iran tested surface-to-surface missiles with a range of 1,200 miles, which could reach Israel and U.S. installations.
