Weird political news

Weird political news January 27, 2016

The political landscape keeps getting stranger and stranger.  Three new examples after the jump.Donald Trump will boycott Thursday’s debate, which will be hosted by Fox News, due to a dispute over panelist Megyn Kelly.

Another wealthy businessman is looking to run for president.  Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, owner of a business news service and television network, and the 10th wealthiest man in America, is considering running for president.  Once a Democrat, then a Republican, and now an Independent, Bloomberg is reportedly dismayed at the prospect of either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.  He will probably run as an Independent, has already made arrangements to get on the ballots,  and says he will spend up to a billion dollars on the race.

Would he have any appeal?  Would any of you support him?  (His problem is that most Americans know him for his unpopular attempts as mayor of New York to limit the portion size of soft drinks and mandate healthy eating.  No one can get elected president without carrying the unhealthy eating community.)

Jerry Falwell, Jr., the president of Liberty University, has endorsed Donald Trump.  At least he and other Christians are doing what many evangelicals have been calling for,  going beyond his father’s brand of  Christian Right political activism by no longer requiring that the person they vote for be a Christian or a conservative.
