DISCUSSION: Banning Social Media for Kids

Florida is considering banning anyone 16 or younger from having access to social media.  California is considering requiring social media companies to shut off  certain algorithms when children are online.

In both the red state and the blue state, the measures are getting bipartisan support.

What do you think of this?

I sympathize with the purpose and the desired result.  But do you see any problems with preventing children from using social media by force of law?
