If you see this painting at a garage sale. . .

. . .call the cops. It’s a work by our own Lucas Cranach that was stolen from a church in Norway a few days ago. It’s worth$ 2.1-2.8 million. Here are the details. The painting is called “Suffer the Little Children to Come to Me.” It’s a beauty. I believe the guy on the far left with the grey square beard is a self-portrait of Cranach.

One interesting fact in art history is that the subject of Christ and the little children is seldom treated in Christian iconography until the Reformation, whereupon it can be found everywhere. Any speculation as to why that might be the case?
