All 552 episodes of “The Simpsons”

All 552 episodes of “The Simpsons”

How would you like to watch all 522 episodes of The Simpsons?  You will get your chance in a Simpsons marathon this summer.   Also with a Simpsons app.

From FXX plans marathon telecast of ‘The Simpsons’ – The Washington Post.

The FXX network plans a marathon telecast this summer of episodes of “The Simpsons” — all 552 of them consecutively.

The network said Wednesday the marathon will start Aug. 21 and continue into Labor Day. FXX programming chief Chuck Saftler said it coincides with the network’s purchase of rerun rights and the development of an app that gives access to every episode of the long-running animated series.

Now let’s think about this.  552 episodes would come to 226 hours of programming.  A true non-stop marathon would thus take 11.5 days.  That would leave no time for sleeping so no one could see them all.  Say, if it ran 10 hours of prime time, that would take 23 days.  Get your vacation request in now.  This, of course, would overwhelm the capabilities of most DVRs.  (The story linked above said that the network would also run 4 hours of Simpsons every Sunday, which would take 56.5 weeks, just over a year.)

But here is the question that interests me:  After how many hours would the series cease to be funny?  How many hours could you watch before you got sick of it?  I suppose this would be a way to quantify the extent to which a person is a fan of a show–how long can the fan binge watch a program (or listen to someone’s music, etc.) before becoming unable to stand it?
