The word "secular" today means having nothing to do with religion.  But the term came from a Latin word referring to a period of time; that is, an "age." The Providing for Life Act would greatly expand the COVID-era child tax credit into a subsidy of up to $4,500 per child, including unborn children. It would include other measures designed, in the words of Rep. Ashley Hinson, to set "the policy course for a culture of life in America."  It is also a test case in the conflict between the two conservative ideologies: limited government vs. big government for conservative goals.

Much of the general public are down on the concept of "organized religion."  They are often fine with "spirituality" or even "religion," but they don't want it to be organized into doctrines, worship, and being part of a church.
