We are an online community of people seeking a safe space for discussion and fellowship within the often-toxic realm of Facebook.

We are at least somewhat spiritual, and we may or may not be religious. We may also disagree about the meaning of either of those terms.

We are at least somewhat affiliated with Christianity. We may be Christians, we may be ex-Christians, we may be interested in Christianity, or we may be connected with someone who is any of the above.

We are at least somewhat progressive, and we may disagree about exactly what that means.

We are heretics. By this we mean that someone somewhere probably deems us heretical. We may in fact be entirely orthodox. Or maybe we really are heretics. We’re okay with either.

We are egalitarian, LGBTQ affirming, and sex positive. We have absolutely zero tolerance for negativity directed toward anyone regarding gender or sexuality.

We make it our intention to side with the oppressed and the marginalized. We stand opposed to racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, nationalism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and all other forms of bigotry.

We believe that love is always the best way forward.

We are the hippie heretics, and we are not alone.

If this sounds like you, or if this sounds like a community you’d like to be a part of, then join us! If it sounds nearly like you, but you disagree on a point or two, that’s fine as well, so long as you respect where the majority of us are coming from.

Above is a manifesto of sorts for “Hippie Heretics,” the new Facebook group I started this week. It’s loosely affiliated with the blog, but it isn’t really about the blog. In any case, it seems to be taking off pretty quickly. If this resonates, then come check us out!
