1 Thessalonians 5: Knowing God’s Will

1 Thessalonians 5: Knowing God’s Will September 20, 2011

“16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

One of the biggest questions in the Christian life is, “How can I know God’s will?” We desire to do what God wants; we just don’t know how to figure it out. The Bible is great, but we really would like a text to tell us where to work, who to marry, what to major in, and where to live.

God’s answers are not always this clear, but Paul does reveal God’s will for us in three key areas of life.

1. Rejoice always

2. Pray continually

3. Give thanks in all circumstances

No matter how confused or lost we may feel, we know three things God wants us to do. His will is not far off and impossible to discover. In many ways, his will has already been made known. It has also been my experience that when I seek to practice the clear will of God, he will reveal the other answers I seek at just the right time. God is rarely fast, but he’s also never late.
