2 Thessalonians 3: Keep Praying

2 Thessalonians 3: Keep Praying September 23, 2011

“1 As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.” -2 Thessalonians 3:1-2

Paul constantly reminded his readers of their need for prayer. Whether for him, for themselves, for leaders, or against evil, prayer was Paul’s first resort.

In 2 Thessalonians 3, he asks prayer for some specifics that offer insight for our lives today. First, he asked his readers to pray for the spread of the Christian message. To Paul, the communication of the love of Jesus was critical. In 1 Corinthians 15, he called it of “first importance.”

Second, he prayed for safety from enemies. Paul was realistic about the evil in this world and asked his friends to pray for his safety.

Both of these requests find life in our lives as well. We likewise can pray for the expansion of God’s message that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that God would protect us from those who seek to cause us harm.

In the end, as with all areas of life, we are to keep praying.
