3 John 1: Walking in the Truth

3 John 1: Walking in the Truth

3 It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” -3 John 1:3-4

Joy. Truth. The two work together like a good relay track team or two riders on a tandem bike. John knew well that it was truth and obedience to it that led to lasting joy. This fact remains today.

Many seek joy through temporary satisfactions. Money, entertainment, travel–the options are endless but the pursuit is the same. Each person is seeking happiness in the few days lived on this earth.

John’s perspective offers something higher, greater, and lasting. The truth of Jesus satisfies not for a season but for all eternity. Those who walk in the truth of Christ enjoy God’s presence working in their lives now and eternity in Christ’s presence beyond this world. That’s something worthy of joy.
