Deuteronomy 10: Fear the Lord

Deuteronomy 10: Fear the Lord 2012-08-14T10:22:34-04:00

12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? -Deuteronomy 10:12-13

If someone asked me, “What does God want me to do?” I could sum it up in one phrase: fear the Lord. Like Moses told the Israelites of old, everything begins with our view of God. What we think of when we think of God determines every action we take in life.

Those who view God as non-existent live as though he does not exist. Those who see God as a taskmaster live in ways they believer are “according to the rules.” Those who see the Lord as the Creator of all who loves each of us through the Son Jesus Christ are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live according to his ways in our thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

Knowledge of God is endless; fear of God is the starting point. Do you want to walk closely with God today? Begin with how you see him. He is mighty, perfect, wise, and loving. He calls us to obedience, not because it will cause him to love us more, but because he knows what is best for our lives. Let us live in fear of the Lord today.
