Deuteronomy 2: The Lord Is With You

Deuteronomy 2: The Lord Is With You

The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything. -Deuteronomy 2:7

For forty years in the wilderness, the Israelites lacked many of the comforts they enjoyed even while in slavery in Egypt. This helps explain why they often complained, despite God’s presence and provision during their journey. Near the end, God took time to remind his people that he had never left them or ignored them. In his words, “The Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.”

Don’t we still need this reminder? God’s assurance that he is with us is one of the most critical factors in our lives. When we doubt he is there or whether he cares for us, it is easy to become discouraged and despondent. But when we remember he is here with us, right now, in this moment, we can rejoice. We can find strength. We can take one more step toward the future God has for us.

Whether we walk through the wilderness or not, God is there, every step, every second. Let us remember today, “The Lord is with you.”
