Deuteronomy 20: Victory Belongs to God

Deuteronomy 20: Victory Belongs to God August 28, 2012

“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.” -Deuteronomy 20:1

Victory is not about the odds but about God. When God is on your side, you win. In a section of the Old Testament Law the NIV labels “Laws of Warfare,” the laws begin with a reminder not to fear their enemies. God had made a promise and he intended to keep it. Israel would live in its own land.

Today, nations continue to emphasize military might as the key to national security. Yet those who know God’s Word know that without the Lord’s blessing, any military buildup is useless in achieving victory.

When we speak of our nation’s security, we are to first consider the Lord, not our weapons. Prayer protects our borders far more than the latest technology. Obedience to the Lord is more effective than any missile. Today, do not fear the struggles you will face. Rather, trust in the Lord. Seek his direction. When he is on your side, you cannot lose.
