“Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” -Deuteronomy 5:29
God’s desire is for our good. He made clear his desire in Deuteronomy 5:29, “Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” He longs for our obedience and to bless us. He is not an angry tyrant nor a playground bully. He is our Creator and views us as his children.
So many of our society’s views of God change this picture. Even in our churches, we are sometimes led to believe God is out to get us or is watching for us to stumble. This is not the case. The One who made us wishes to change us. Our Lord desires our best. Even when we suffer, it is not without purpose.
Today, let us view our God for who he is, not who we have been told he is. Let us enjoy his presence and walk in joy, knowing that he desires that it would go well with us today.
