Joshua 7: Sin in the Way

Joshua 7: Sin in the Way September 26, 2012

“Tell them, ‘Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There are devoted things among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove them.” -Joshua 7:13

The same people who had defeated the mighty city of Jericho had just been defeated by the much smaller city of Ai. Why? God revealed to Joshua that sin among his people was the source of the problem.

Still today, Christians realize that our sins can block God’s blessing upon our lives. Why would God bless our efforts when we secretly sin against him? Though he sees all we do, our hidden sins can hurt our relationship with him–and with others.

Another consequence of hidden sin is guilt. The answer? Confession and change. God offers to forgive when we repent. He calls us to change and to live differently. If this story reflects something happening in your own life, don’t run from God. Run to him. You can be confident God will accept you as a prodigal son coming home to the loving heavenly Father.
