Judges 6: Never Tell Me the Odds

Judges 6: Never Tell Me the Odds October 29, 2012

The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” -Judges 6:14

My favorite line from Han Solo on Star Wars has always been, “Never tell me the odds.” It didn’t matter if what he was trying was impossible. All that mattered was whether he could make it at that moment.

Judges 6 somewhat reminds me of this story. When God called Gideon to rescue the Israelites, Gideon doubted. Just as many of us would, he wondered why God would choose someone like him, one from the weakest of Israel’s clans, to save his people.

Yet God often uses those in lowly positions to accomplish his plans. That’s good news for us. No matter our status, God can and will use anyone willing to walk humbly before him.

If you’ve been following God for some time, what lowly beginnings has he brought you from? Look at now compared to when you first began. What has God done you can praise him for?

As the Lord said, “Am I not sending you?” Today, if God calls you to something, do it. With his strength, you can accomplish anything he sends you to do.
