1 Samuel 15: The Lord’s Delight

1 Samuel 15: The Lord’s Delight 2012-12-14T10:47:14-05:00

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices

as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” -1 Samuel 15:22

How do we delight the Lord? According to Samuel, the answer is obedience. There is no quick fix, single achievement that makes God happy. His desire is for our ongoing, daily commitment to him.

In our instant gratification culture, this strikes as difficult if not impossible. King Saul’s weakness was our weakness–the inability to submit to God’s will when he doesn’t answer as quickly as we’d like.

If God hasn’t answered your request yet, don’t take matters into your own hands. Obey the Lord. This is his delight.
