1 Samuel 6: Who Can Stand before God?

1 Samuel 6: Who Can Stand before God? 2012-12-03T11:36:15-05:00

And the people of Beth Shemesh asked, “Who can stand in the presence of the Lord, this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?” -1 Samuel 6:20

God is perfect; we’re not. But sometimes people forget.

Those in 1 Samuel 6 experienced a stark reminder that God was boss and they were not.

Some wonder why God allows evil to take place in our world or why suffering exists. There is more than one reason, but one of them is to show God is holy. How does this work? When we realize our strength cannot compare with what God can do, we learn a proper fear of God. When we properly view God, we are more likely to worship him on his terms rather than ours.

Today, take some time to remember who is really calling the shots in life. The one we need to fear is the also the one who loves us most. We are called to both fear him and to love him in the way we live our lives today.
