2 Kings 4: God’s Heart for Widows and Orphans

2 Kings 4: God’s Heart for Widows and Orphans 2013-03-20T10:19:47-04:00

She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.” -2 Kings 4:7

Elisha was used by God to help provide for a widow and children. Because Elisha acted, a woman and her children were spared from slavery.

This rich passage offers numerous insights into God’s priorities.

First, God loves to help those in need.

Second, God cares deeply for widows and orphans.

Third, God does not desire people to live in the bondage of slavery.

Fourth, God can and often does provide for the needs of others through his people.

God operates in numbers 1-3. You and I are number 4. Today is the time to be a servant to those in need. God is doing his part; let’s do ours. If we don’t, he can find someone else to accomplish his goals. It is when we allow and seek for God to work through us that we help others as well as experience the blessing of serving others. Let the needs that move the heart of God be the needs that move your heart.
