2 Kings 15: Right in the Eyes of the Lord

He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done. -2 Kings 15:34

Jotham was not perfect, but was marked by one key trait in Scripture: “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done.” In the end, we will not be evaluated for our wealth or even our wisdom, but rather how we are viewed from God’s perspective.

Unfortunately, most people live for the approval of self or someone else rather than God. When we do, we find ourselves unsatisfied with the results. We either become proud because we feel we are doing better than others or discouraged because we feel others are doing better than we are.

But from God’s perspective, we are already perfectly loved and fully accepted when we believe in Jesus Christ. Yes, we will still fail despite our best efforts. Our goal, however, is to please him. We do not look left or right to compare our efforts with others. We look to Christ alone, the one who has provided a perfect standard. He offers us a relationship with him that includes the contentment of knowing we are fully accepted and need not compare ourselves to others. Instead, our goal is to live right in the eyes of the Lord.

Today, life to be known as one right in the eyes of the Lord.
