1 Chronicles 10: The Importance of Faithfulness

1 Chronicles 10: The Importance of Faithfulness May 7, 2013

13 Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse. -1 Chronicles 10:13-14

Saul died in battle, but he died because of unfaithfulness to the Lord. How was he unfaithful? 1 Chronicles 10 notes he did not obey God’s word, sought the counsel of a medium (a psychic), and did not turn to God for help. All three of these actions revealed a heart that sought success apart from God for personal gain.

In contrast, God handed Saul’s kingdom over to David. As a young man, David sang praises to the Lord, seeking him with all his heart. Despite his flaws, he turned to God throughout his life, counting on the Lord for success.

History mentions Saul as a king of unfaithfulness, but David as a man after God’s own heart.

Which will you be? Your answer to this important question begins with the actions you take today.
