“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” -2 Chronicles 7:14
The National Day of Prayer is built on this verse. Why? It reveals God’s response to those who humble themselves and pray to God. But it doesn’t stop there.
First, God address his people. In the original context the reference is to Israelites, the Jewish people. However, it could be rightly applied to those who follow the Lord Almighty of the Bible. Second, prayer requires humility. Third, we are called to seek God. Fourth, we are called to repent or turn from wrong.
These four areas are all essential. Those who follow through are told God will hear from heaven, forgive, and heal. We may not be able to fix every problem of our nation, but we know where to start. On our knees. In humility. In repentance. In prayer.
