Deuteronomy 15: Blessed to Be a Blessing

Deuteronomy 15: Blessed to Be a Blessing 2012-08-21T10:10:59-04:00

“7 If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.” -Deuteronomy 15:7-8

God cares for the poor. He also cares how we treat those who are poor.

When we are blessed, it is to bless others. When we live in plenty, it is to help those in need.

When we don’t, God calls it being “hardhearted” and “tightfisted.” We cut off love toward others, showing no compassion or mercy. We close our fingers around our material possessions, thinking our hands were the ones to provide our possessions to start.

Instead, the Lord calls us to be openhanded and to lend freely to those in need. We must be wise in how we give, but we must not fail to help those truly in need. Today, open your hands and your heart. Seek to bless those with some of what God has blessed you.
