1 Samuel 9: The Seer

 Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. -1 Samuel 9:19

Samuel called himself a seer. A seer was an ancient word for a prophet, someone who was given wisdom regarding future events. These were sometimes prophetic in nature; at other times, a discerning mind of wisdom. In Samuel’s case, he had heard the voice of the Lord since he had been a child. He was one of the few of his time known as a seer.

Still today, many wish to know events in advance of them happening. Yet many of those same people fail to examine the information God has already revealed in his Word. Those who wish to know what will happen next can find much wisdom in the Bible.

With this wisdom, God often opens people to a more discerning mind and heart that is looked to by others for wisdom. You may never become a seer in the traditional, biblical sense, but you can certainly discover what God’s Word says and share it with others. This noble attitude is one that existed in the life of Samuel and continues to influence leaders today.
