9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him. -2 Samuel 5:9-10
David became king and soon took over Jerusalem, calling it the City of David. We are told, “He became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.” How and why was God with him?
God was with David because it was part of God’s sovereign plan. David did not deserve God’s favor, yet he received it.
David was faithful, but it was God who gave the success.
As we look at leaders in today’s world, it is tempting to see their success as self built and attempt to copy their example. Even within the church, large church leaders often become the exemplars others follow.
But God’s plan for you is not to copy any man; it’s to follow God. He has a perfect, sovereign, unique plan for each person. What matters most is that the Lord is with you.
