2 Kings 16: Leaving a Legacy

² Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God. ³ He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire, engaging in the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. ⁴ He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree. -2 Kings 16:2-4

Everyone leaves a legacy, whether they want to or not. The question is, “What kind of legacy will you leave?” As I look at the history of the kings of Israel, most left a negative mark that included selfish living and rebellion against God.

If there was one chapter to chronicle the history of your life, what would it say? What would it include? What would you want it not to include? The time work toward such a legacy is not at the end of life, but now. Little changes over a lifetime can make all the difference between a legacy that honors God and one that does not. How you live today has the potential to impact all eternity.

Start living the legacy you wish to leave now, not later. You will not regret it.
