1 Chronicles 20: Your Actions Impact Others

⁶ In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. ⁷ When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him. -1 Chronicles 20:6-7

When David killed Goliath as a young man, he had no idea the influence his faith would have for years to come. When the Israelites fought in Goliath’s hometown years later, David’s nephew Shimea stepped up to kill a large opponent who came against their army. Why? We are not given the details, but David’s earlier victory certainly provided some confidence for this later battle.

As I reflect on this chapter, one clear observation is that everything we do influences others. We often do not see this at the time, but how God works in our life touched the actions of those who go forth after us. Because of this, it should cause us to live intentionally, serving God with purpose in every moment of our lives. After all, David’s life impact a nation for generations.
