“We played Aggravation,” Zach reported tonight from California. “Have you ever played, Mom?”
“I played every day with my Grandma when I visited her. It was one of her favorite games.”
“Can you get it for us?”
“You can save up your money and buy it yourself.”
“Do you know where we can get it?”
“Yup.”
“Target?”
From the background I can hear Ezra’s assessment of Target as the go-to store for game shopping: “Oh yeah, you’ll find it there. If you go to Target, your gonna hit the Target!”
So there you have it. All of our fine Christian values be damned. All of our prayers, practices, tithing and teaching seemingly forgotten, Zach and Ezra believe that all good things in life can be purchased at Target. I don’t think Target has explicit ad campaigns that explain its name and symbol, but Ezra, who himself has a knack for marketing, has clearly bought into their branding message. Among many disturbing questions this raises, I can’t help but wonder if Jesus needs better marketing.
If only we had some guidance here…
Oh wait, doesn’t it say something in our Book about people knowing us by our love? That’s a target with shooting for, yes?
