Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays 2012-10-11T22:23:48-06:00

Hey.  Some people get themselves in a tither if you say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.  Not me.

Why would I not want to wish my neighbors Happy Holidays if they celebrate Chanukah? Or Kwanzaa?  Or the winter solstice?  I DO wish them a happy holiday.

Not only that, when we found ourselves hanging out with those crazy Pilgrims in Plimoth during the last year, they made sure to point out that they had no interest in celebrating Christmas. “Only the heathen followers of the King’s Church do that.”

Unless December 25 happened to fall on a Sunday, those Pilgrims kept right on working. In fact, until the late 1600s, the Puritans outlawed any celebration of the holiday. And even after that law was repealed, the Puritans who dominated New England found the Christmas practices of their neighbors an abomination.

So anyhoo, Happy Holidays.  Enjoy our card. (I feel that I should tell you that by posting it here, I am receiving $10 off my next purchase at Shutterfly, my first financial gain from blogging! Don’t click on the picture, though, unless you want to head to the Shutterfly site. Clicking doesn’t make it bigger.)
