I have been able to spend a lot of time on both the northern and southern hemispheres of the earth. I have had this opportunity because I have helped develop training and retreat centers on both sides of the earth. Right now in New Zealand, where I am working on the Earth Village, we are in the middle of winter and the sun is mostly hidden away behind clouds. But if I were to fly to visit Sedona Mago Retreat, I would step off the plane into the blazing summer sun of Arizona and temperatures nearing 100 degrees. All these seasonal changes are due to changes in the sun’s position relative to the earth, which makes me very aware of the sun’s cycles and its effect on life and on the human spirit.
The Sun Is the Source of Life
I can assume that most of you reading this are enjoying the bright light and warmth of summer at this moment, even if not as intensely as I experience it in Arizona. Summertime is a wonderful time when the natural world seems fully alive and full of energy, and we humans go outside to play, to relax, and to soak up the rays of the sun.
Science has confirmed that sun is very important for our health. We cannot synthesize vitamin D without it, and many diseases, such as immune disorders, osteoporosis, asthma, and cancer, have been linked to vitamin D deficiency. Furthermore, the sun is the powerhouse of all life on earth. Without the sun, all life on earth would die, and not just from the icy cold that would result. All the food we eat is like a concentrated form of sunlight that our cells convert back into energy for our muscles and organs. Stated very simply, the food chain that we rely on works something like this: plants gather the energy of sunlight through the process of photosynthesis, animals eat the plants, and we eat both the plants and the animals to power our bodies.
The Body You Cannot See
Western scientists look at the energy exchanges between cells, but Asian medical systems have been aware of energy for a much longer time, and it forms the basis of its philosophies and methods. The name for this form of vital energy is qi, chi, or ki, and it runs through your body on a network of pathways known as meridians. Altogether, these form a complete structure, called the energy body, that you cannot see or feel in the same way that you can your physical body. In a way, however, you can and do feel it; every time you say something like “I don’t have the energy for that” or you experience the electric buzz of feeling full of energy, you are sensing your own energy body. With practice, you can feel it in more subtle forms, as well.
Your Soul and the Sun
As earth beings, the sun is our most important source of vital energy, so I prefer to call our energy bodies the “Solar Body.” By focusing on the solar source, you can visualize and direct the energy of the sun to come directly to you for healing and rejuvenation. And, through the process of doing so, you will have the chance to awaken and expand your soul toward the next level of spiritual growth.
When your body’s natural healing ability is at its full potential, your body becomes a Solar Body. Like the sun, a Solar Body is warm and overflowing with energy. It sustains itself with its own natural processes, creating its own health and happiness. When you have a Solar Body, you shine brightly with health, vitality, a sunny attitude, sparkling eyes, radiant skin, and a glowing spirit.
During the next several weeks, I will be writing several articles about how to best take advantage of this, and to shine as brightly as a sun beam yourself. So, please follow along with this series of articles on the Solar Body, and find a limitless source for healing and renewal for your life.
