LAWN CUTTING DAY! Tomorrow, Thursday, is Lawn Cutting Day. Sure, most cut their lawns on the weekend, but since I have been able to retire, I cut the lawn on Thursday, hoping to get it in the trash for pick up on Friday. It’s no small task-Lawn Cutting Day, or LCD for those of us making up the name. I change from sneakers to boots, cancel my bike ride, finding my ear buds for music- there’s a lot of prepping... Read more

Dad, uses all things for good. He can take a broken heart and not only mend it, but cause it to mend others. He can take us on a hike and we find a stream and there, we find peace. Peace, maybe we haven't had in a while. Read more

Sometimes, we bounce. Sometimes, in that bounce, we don't bounce well. Its life. Sometimes, that bounce will hurt, and you might hurt for a while. Maybe it’s physical. A lot of times, it's a mental hurt. That third marriage you thought was perfect, wasn’t. In all cases, you need to let stuff heal. Patience is not necessarily a virtue of mine. But I am getting better at it. Abba has taught me patience. Read more

Sometimes, Abba lets us, well, bounce! His protection seems like it might not be protection at all. But it is. He saves us from ourselves, and when we ask, Hey, where were you? He tells us He was there, and Oh child, it was going to be so much worse if I didn’t intervene. Read more

WHERE IS GOD? In today’s world, it is sometimes hard to see God’s hand, God’s perfection, His deliverance, His protection. Where is God? We find ourselves crying out, time and time again. We are fearful for ourselves, feeling adrift with no one to protect us. He is there. He is everywhere. A few days ago in Phoenix, in the middle of the night, someone had a nightmare manifest itself. So, they called those who handle nightmares-real nightmares. The caller told... Read more

THIS COULD BE OUR FINEST HOUR! In life and in life’s partnerships, chances are one of the partners will go before the other, leaving the other behind to cope with the world-alone. Sometimes, if it is way deep in life’s seasons when one leaves, sometimes the other just folds up the tent and quits, leaving within months after their partner. That didn’t happen with me, but I can understand it. From what I’ve seen and experienced, for the second partner... Read more

…DON’T WANT TO…. I voted with myself and have made a life decision about, well, the remainder of my life.   I do NOT want to be an Olympic Winter athlete.   First of all, let’s talk about the obvious. It’s cold. Everywhere is cold. Even in the venues which are contained inside like the arenas. Have you ever been to a hockey game? It’s cold enough to freeze your nubbins off. You need a parka to go to the... Read more

WHEN I WAS YOUNG… When I was young, not so much in middle age, and even more now, I always felt a desire to ‘go.’      It was sometimes hard to see the path Sometimes, during the course of this journey—down this sometimes-snow-covered trail in this season I am in, it is hard to see the path. Sometimes, I feel I have been on it long enough thank you very much and want to go—anywhere else-even Home. It’s not... Read more
