People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child — our own two eyes. All is a miracle. –-Thich Nhat Hanh
Whatever else this moment is, it is also a miracle. Though awareness may include much pain and suffering, still it is awareness, still it is life, still it is the miracle of being.
There is much to be thankful for. And perhaps the greatest thing to be thankful for is the opportunity to be thankful. There are many wonderful things to be desired, and yet none of them matter as much as the ability to feel desire in the first place.
Even when there is nothing out of the ordinary, there is everything to celebrate. For even the ordinary days are miraculous. In fact, they are especially miraculous precisely because they’re so commonplace that the miracle is overlooked.
Celebrate the miracle of being. It is always.
