Imagination, by its very nature, feeds on itself. One imaginative thought serves to pull another related thought out of you. Then the two combine to spur on yet another thought, and another, in an ever-increasing cascade flowing from… from where?
Where does imagination come from? It comes from you. It comes from the essence of who you are, from the things you’ve experienced, from the values you’ve adopted, from the opinions you hold. It comes from the things that fascinate you, the things that delight you and the things that frighten you. All that living energy is constantly swirling within you and your imagination taps deeply into it.
Once you use your intention to plant a seed in your imagination, that seed can quickly grow. The most powerful way for that to happen is simply to allow it. Just stay out of the way. Instead of striving to force your thoughts in a particular direction, let them come as they will. Let them come from the authentic source that you know is there but cannot fully articulate. Your imagination knows what it is doing if you’ll just allow it.
Though your imagination is amazingly powerful and can bring you great things, you don’t want to just let it run wild. Because it can be just as effective at coming up with negative imagery as with the positive stuff. When you realize that your imagination is no longer expanding your best possibilities and has started feeding your fears, step in and set it back on track. The way to do that is not to fight your imagination, because your imagination will fight back and that’s a fight you probably won’t win. Instead, just plant a new positive, empowering seed. Give your imagination a new challenge, something compelling to work with. Soon the negativity will be long gone and you’ll be imagining your way forward.
