Do you need more money? Ok, assume that your bank account suddenly has more money than you could spend in a hundred lifetimes. Take some of that money and pay all your bills. Then go shopping, and buy everything you’ve ever wanted to buy. After that, pack your bags and get moving. See the world. Visit every place you’ve ever thought of visiting. Experience everything you’ve ever wished to experience. Then ask yourself, are there some people you’d really like to impress? Go ahead and consider them impressed.
In short, imagine that you’ve bought everything there is to buy, experienced every thrill there is to experience, and impressed everyone there is to impress. What would you do then? What would give your life meaning and fulfillment? If all your goals had been reached, and even exceeded, what would get you going each day? When you see for yourself that all the superficial stuff is not what will bring real meaning and richness to your life, what then?
Is that the kind of dilemma you’d like to have? Well, congratulations, because that is precisely the challenge you face even now.
Though you may not be outrageously wealthy, and though you may never be, the richness of life is completely within your grasp this very day. That richness is found beyond the superficial concerns that can so powerfully dominate your thinking. Those shallow things you think you care so much about, you’ll eventually realize you don’t. And when that happens, your eyes will begin to open to the genuine richness of your living existence.
Consider what you would care about, if everything you cared about were already yours. And you’ll begin to see that it truly is.
