Is This Yesterday’s News?
The world is a funny place
I don’t know what to think of it
Catastrophes, wars, famines
Yet it’s business as usual
For us in America
Who’s popular on social media?
Who won the game?
Who’s running for office?
I hope 2024 increases our awareness
For at least our allies in the world

It’s not really that bad
Or is it?
When you think about it
Suffering is a foreign concept
We can’t seem to grasp it
We don’t know what the world is facing
Because we’re spoonfed by the media
Is it just Western society?
America and Western Europe?
Do we see it all through our lens?
Are we moved by human suffering?
Or are we desensitized?
Maybe we’re not seeing enough
Maybe the media isn’t covering it
As Americans we should be concerned
About one of our strongest allies
As Christians we should be concerned
About the People of God
I’m writing about Israel
It seems like passing news
Yesterday’s news
The only thing we’re talking about now
Is anti-Semitic protests on college campuses
At a deeper level
Has God rescinded His covenant?
No, His hand is still on Israel
To think God is done with Israel
Or Christians have replaced Israel
Is to be in Theological error
And land is central to the covenant
It always has been
But the land that you are crossing over to occupy is a land of hills and valleys, watered by rain from the sky, a land that the Lord your God looks after. The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
Deuteronomy 11.11-12
Although I’d like to apply this devotionally
Make this promise personal in some way
I’m moreso grieved for Israel
I can gain personal meaning
I need a promise like this right now
But I’m not facing what Israel faced
I pray this is a year of peace for Israel
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem
This is not an Eschatological rant
This is not even a Theological rant
I’m just concerned
What are the protests about?
Some people are calling for
The annihilation of a people
Our grandfathers fought to protect
Less than a century ago
I can’t imagine
Being a Jewish student
On some college campuses
Where the protests are
Imagine wanting to kill a whole nationality
Is there something wrong with this mindset?
Is it just about killing Zionists?
Those are Jews tied to the land promise
This seems to be a central issue in the fight
However, if the Jews can’t be protected
If the Jews can’t have land
What was World War II about?
What was the Six Day War about?
Can we learn anything from history?
Again, why is this passing news?
Is this yesterday’s news?
Are we desensitized in Western society?
Are we being spoonfed by the media?
Do we recognize human suffering?
How do we support our allies?
Do we believe God has a purpose for Israel?
